COMPETITION GETS RELATIVE

BY JONATHAN BLUM, KAGAN

One of the drivers in regulators' perception of high cable prices is its value relative to satellite. A snapshot of basic digital tier pricing shows a mean for satellite and cable of $34 and $54, respectively. While exact comparisons are difficult ? channel offerings are not consistent across services ? this striking spread bolsters claims that cable is relatively expensive.
