Still working to push away from its country-western roots, TNN: The National Network is offering viewers a chance to showcase their special talents via a promotional program in which the grand prize winner will develop a professional video and meet with TV executives.
Through Feb. 15, the "Do You Want To Be A Pop Star" promotion invites those 18 or older to send in a VHS, mini-DV or audio recording of their singing, dancing, acrobatic, comedic, athletic or other talent that will be judged by a panel of TNN executive producers.
Ten finalists will be selected and their talents displayed in spots throughout all TNN dayparts. The channel's viewers will make the call on the top pop wannabe by dialing 1-888-POP-1090.
The winner, expected to be selected in mid-March, will be lavished with all the trappings of pop stardom, including round-trip airfare to Manhattan, two nights of luxury accommodations and a photographer to chronicle the excitement. Additionally, the pop transformation avails the winner of a professional make-up artist and wardrobe stylist to prep them for their performance before a professional director, as a prelude to a meeting with a talent agent and TNN executives about future showbiz opportunities.
Moreover, the winner's video will appear repeatedly on TNN.
"Approximately 10,000 viewers call in to TNN's toll-free pop line each week, and many are featured in our on-air branding spots," says TNN GM Diane Robina. "We know they have special talents we can showcase on the new TNN, where `real stories, real people' and pop culture are the most important programming elements. `Do You Want To Be A Pop Star' is one more way TNN viewers have a voice on the network."
