Strong Home Shopping Network sales and higher ad revenue at USA Networks and Sci-Fi Channel helped lower USA Networks Inc.'s fourth-quarter loss to $12 million, from the year earlier period's $21.2 million loss.
Revenue rose nearly 8%, to $767.1 million from $711.6 million. EBITDA rose 9% in the quarter to $140 million from $128.9 million. SG Cowen analyst Ed Hatch said results were slighty ahead of his expectations.
Elsewhere, 3Com Corp.'s headend cable modem termination system (CMTS) and cable modems received Level II approval by Network Inc., making it the only system manufacturer with both CMTS and modem certification.
Level II approval paves the way toward wide-scale deployment of 3Com gear with affiliates.
