ANDREW CORP.: The following management changes have been announced: John DeSana has been promoted to group president Heliax products; Thomas Charlton is group president, communication products; Debra Buck Huttenburg continues as group president, antenna systems and wireless products; Barry Houlihan has been appointed VP-international services and Alan Haase has joined the company as VP-Terrestrial microwave products.
AMERICAN TELESERVICES ASSN.: The association honors the following for the Telco Award which recognizes excellence in the design and execution of inbound and outbound telephone-based marketing strategies: Diebold Inc., Union, Ohio, for a program to sell ATMs over the phone: Telegy Corp., Danville, Calif., for creation of the SegaSoft Networks Consumer Support Center; Protocall Communications, Laurel, Md., for a comprehensive outsource program with Digex and Intermedia Communications Co. and Viking Offfice Products, Los Angeles for a test program to increase the conversion rate of first-time customers to multi-time buyers. The 1998 Telephone Professional of the Year Award goes to Karen Crawford and Donna Pokora. Crawford is owner/president of Crawford & Associates, a call center consulting firm in Lafayette, Calif. Pokora is a senior associate at Oetting & Co., Inc. in Oak Creek, Wis. The 1998 Distinguished Service Award winner is Steve Walker, former ATA president and member of the board of directors. The President's Recognition Award is given to Key Corporation, Cleveland, Ohio, for its contributions to ATA.
BBC AMERICA: Jo Petherbridge has been named VP-communications. She joined BBC in London in 1991 as science program publicist and was later senior publicity officer for factual programs. Moving to New York in 1997, Petherbridge was involved in the launch of BBC America last year. Polly Hunter has been named director-programming. She joined BBC radio in 1991, and was part of the launch team for BBC Prime, the BBC's European Entertainment Channel, where she was previously planning manager.
BBC WORLDWIDE AMERICAS: Ronni M. Faust has joined the network as VP-press and public relations; she had been with ESPN as director-corporate communications, and prior to that, she was VP-communications for the Television Bureau of Advertising.
BUCKEYE CABLE SYSTEM: The following have been promoted: Brad Mefferd EVP to EVP-COO; he had also been corporate treasurer; Joe Jensen from VP-engineering to EVP-CTO; Walter C. (Chip) Carstensen from senior manager, technical operations to VP-rebuild/technical operations and Cathy Smith from various management positions to senior manager, technical project management.
CARTOON NETWORK: Laurie Goldberg has been named VP-public relations; she had been with Pinnacle Brands Inc., a Dallas-based sports trading card company. Prior to that, she was VP-public relations for Action Packed Trading Cards in Itasca, Ill.
CHARLTON GROUP: Rod Schwegel has been promoted from VP to COO. He will continue to focus on partnerships, growth and daily operations. William Carlson has named director-cable television services; he had been director-marketing for Marcus Cable's North Central region. Lori Recker and Fred Altmann will continue in association with Carlson to manage partnerships with MSOs and premium channel suppliers.
CHARTER COMMUNICATIONS: David L. McCall has been named SVP-operations, Eastern division; he had been Southeast regional operations manager and SVP-operations, Southeast region. In his new role, he will be responsible for regional groups in the company's Southern, Southeast and Northeast regions. Prior to joining Charter in 1994, he was regional manager- operations for Crown Cable and its predecessor, Cencom Cable Associates. Nicholas J. Hubbuch has been named director-information systems; he had been manager, computing and telecommunications services for Nestle USA. Steven Schumm has joined the company as EVP-assistant to the president; he had been managing partner in the St. Louis office of Ernst & Young LLP where he specialized in tax advisory and directed tax services. At Charter, he will be responsible for assisting in the daily management of the company and for the regulatory compliance/planning and financial controls depts. and the MIS and national data centers in St. Louis and Dallas.
CNBC: Joe Witte has been named chief meteorologist. He will be the network's first full-time meteorologist. He has been a meteorologist on NewsChannel 4, Today in New York and chief meteorologist for NBC's News at Sunrise and Sunday Today. He also files daily weather reports with CNBC's Today's Business.
COMMUNICATIONS EQUITY ASSOCIATES: Amanda Wang has joined the company's Hong Kong office as assistant VP and will be responsible for expanding the company's activities in the Asia Pacific region. She had been a consultant to an international media company advising on its entry in Asia. Colin Clapton has joined the firm as EVP, Cable Television. He had been president/CEO of the Mark's Group, and prior to that, he was with the Fleet Financial Group.
CONVERGYS CORP.: James M. Dahmus has been appointed head of the new utilities business unit in the company's information management group where he will be responsible for executive management, strategic planning and business development. He had been SVP-controller for the group. Prior to that he was VP-controller of Cincinnati Bell Inc. and director-international finance for Procter & Gamble.
