CONCURRENT FORECASTS HIGHER VOD REVENUES
With eight additional VOD deployments due this quarter, Concurrent Computer is expecting a boost in revenue and earnings. Last week Concurrent said it expects $13 million in VOD revenue this quarter, up from previous guidance of $12.5 million, and $13 to $14 million in VOD revenue in its fiscal fourth quarter ending in June. It expects to break even or earn 1 cent per share in both quarters. Concurrent also formed a strategic alliance and invested in Thirdspace Living Ltd. to focus on Internet protocol for the delivery of video over DSL and cable networks.

The company expects to add 325,000 net new subscribers, up from prior expectations of 200,000 to 250,000. Typically, about three-quarters of DirecTV's new customers come from homes passed by cable, spokesman Bob Marsocci said.
LIBERATE COUNTERSUES OPENTV
Liberate Technologies countersued rival OpenTV, alleging that OpenTV is violating several of Liberate's patents on key interactive television technologies. In its suit, filed in the Northern District of California, Liberate is seeking both monetary damages and injunctive relief. Separately, Liberate denied that it infringed the two patents previously asserted by OpenTV in a suit filed Feb. 7. OpenTV general counsel Jesse Berg said the company remained confident about its original suit and said ?we have no reason to believe that OpenTV infringes the patents cited.?
