CABLE WORLD STAFF
Try to imagine our glee when we heard that C.A. Swanson and Sons will reintroduce the official "TV Dinner" to celebrate the company's 45th anniversary. Introduced in 1954, when Swanson executives sought to unload 520,000 pounds of excess turkey, TV Dinners quickly grabbed the imagination of our early couch potato forefathers. However, apparently unable to grasp the idea that said couch potatoes one day would rule the world, Swanson dumped the "TV Dinners" brand in 1962. Now, flagging sales and an increasingly competitive frozen food marketplace have prompted what we at Cable World can only describe as a culinary Renaissance. The marketing stunt will feature 10 new products, backed with $10 million worth of advertising.
