N2 NOW COMPATIBLE WITH GEMSTAR-TV GUIDE IPG
N2 Broadband announced last week that it had integrated its OpenStream VOD platform with Gemstar-TV Guide's interactive program guide, thus opening the door for future alliances with cable systems built on the Motorola platform. In addition, N2 has completed the integration of OpenStream with Scientific-Atlanta's SARA digital navigator and Pioneer's Passport IPG.
VOD HONEYMOON IN VEGAS FOR COX, SORRENTO
Sorrento Networks said Cox Communications is using its IP transport equipment to help meet its VOD needs in Las Vegas. Specifically, Cox is using Sorrento's GigaMux DWDM and JumpStar CWDM systems. The MSO plans to leverage the San Diego-based vendor's gear to allow for both IP-based video and data trafficking, and looks to serve the region's many hotels and resorts.
EVERSTREAM TROUBLE-SHOOTS FOR TWC
Everstream announced that four Time Warner Cable markets in its national division are deploying Everstream's S4 Operational Intelligence performance analysis system, version 2.0. ?VOD operations involve complex interoperability between disparate systems and content sources,? said Everstream president Stephen McHale. ?When things don't go the way you expect, the time it takes to identify and solve problems can make a big difference to an operator's bottom line.? Everstream will deliver its third release of the S4 software to customers in Q3.
ABC NEWS ANOTHER NOTCH IN TVN'S BELT
TVN Entertainment has scored a major VOD win with ABC News, its first in the broadcast network arena. Under terms of the latest deal, TVN can distribute up to 50 hours of content per month, including such programs as Good Morning America, World News Tonight, 20/20 and Nightline. TVN currently distributes in excess of 1,200 hours of VOD programming from over 70 content providers.
SANDVINE COMBATS P2P
Ontario-based Mountain Cablevision has deployed a policy management platform from Sandvine to control P2P traffic running on its broadband network. The op said it turned to Sandvine to help defuse a costly boom in file-sharing activity.
