Microsoft's mission to gain a foothold in digital set-top boxes continues to evolve with the latest iteration manifested as an improved IPG to manage the growing range of content on the digital platform. Though many consider the guide a means to an end for the software giant, it's no simple task displacing guides such as the TV Guide product. In order to establish a presence in the box, Microsoft first has to convince operators its Foundation platform is compelling enough to dislodge the incumbent and renavigate the integration process, no small feat even for a superior product.
