BLACK STARZ! READIES FIFTH ANNUAL FILM FEST
Black Starz! launched its fifth annual Pan African Film Festival last week. Hosted by actress CCH Pounder, the festival features a film focusing on the African experience every Wednesday evening in July and August. Among the films is Boesman and Lena, from South Africa, the last movie directed by John Berry. It stars Danny Glover and Angela Bassett.
WE GOES BLONDE
WE: Women's Entertainment plans a National Blonde Day film festival on July 9, in conjunction with the MGM release of the movie Legally Blonde. MGM owns a 20% stake in WE as part of its deal with Rainbow Media Holdings Inc. WE will air an interview with Legally Blonde star Reese Witherspoon, while MGM, in print and radio ads, will promote WE's festival, which includes Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, with Marilyn Monroe; Rear Window, with Grace Kelly; and Overboard, with Goldie Hawn.
TBS PREPARES FOR WORST CASE
The producer of TBS Superstation's new series Worst-Case Scenario, is seeking people interested in trying to survive an outrageous situation from experts. Applicants chosen may appear in segments on the show, set to launch in January. Applications are available on the TBS website, TBSsuperstation.com. The series is based on the book The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook and is produced by Columbia TriStar Television Distribution.
MTV GOES TO THE MOVIES
Last week MTV aired its first Making the Movie special, based on American Pie 2, the film due to be released next month. Following on MTV's Making the Video series, the special offers a behind-the-scenes look at the Universal Picture's comedy, including rehearsals, commentary and interviews with its stars including Jason Biggs, Shannon Elizabeth, Alyson Hannigan, Tara Reid and Mena Suvari.
