CABLE WORLD STAFF
Cartoon Network recently emblazoned a Delta Express 737 jet from wing to tail with its crime-fighting cuties, the Powerpuff Girls. The deal marks the first time Delta Express has allowed another company to deface, er, draw on one of its planes. During its first month in service, kids flying aboard the craft will be distracted with Powerpuff activity books, games and flight crew pins, presumably enabling mom and dad to have a Powervodka and Powernap.
Even though there's only one Powerpuff-painted plane, the promo will be spread throughout the Delta Express network of 30-plus crafts traveling to 23 U.S. cities.
"The Powerpuff program right now is originating on all the Delta Express routes," says Kim McQuilken, EVP-Cartoon Network sales and marketing. The promo will also power its way into several airports. "While you're sitting at a particular gate waiting to go to a vacation destination, the Powerpuff experience might even begin before you get on the airplane," hints McQuilken.
Ack! Promotion-sickness bag anyone? For those who aren't flying, a 360-degree glimpse of the Powerpuff plane can be obtained at Cartoonnetwork.com and a customized Powerpuff/Delta game will soon be available online.
"We're trying to extend the tentacles of this beyond the airplane," says McQuilken. While Powerpuff won't touch the overhead storage compartments on Delta Express, we do hear that Vanguard Airlines is looking for a few good advertisers. Given ABC's "Must-Pee TV" plans to tout its Norm series via audio sensors located above urinals, is no space sacred from sponsors?
