TVData Technologies is buying Knight Ridder's Cable Connection magazine.
Knight Ridder publishes more than 40 monthly versions of its Cable Connection program guide magazine for a variety of MSOs, including Cox Communications, Time Warner Cable and Charter Communications. Cable Connection counts roughly 4.4 million customers.
TVData already has a brandable online programming guide called clicktv, as well as TVData OnScreen, a brandable scrolling guide available to 4 million cable homes.
The company also offers Cable Direct, an interactive TV program guide service that counts 2 million customers. Cable Connection now gives the company a print outlet, giving TVData programming information on three platforms: print, online and onscreen, making it more competitive with companies such as Gemstar.
"Cable Connection rounds out our product line for the cable TV industry, and it is consistent with our strategy of broadening the range of high-quality attractive products on which our reputation has been built," says Art Bassin, TVData's president.
He wants to integrate TVData's cable industry product with its newspaper industry products and services "to provide the best possible coverage of what's on TV and what to watch for every market TVData services."
