Cable Television Laboratories adopted middleware software developed by the Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) project for advanced OpenCable digital set-top boxes. DVB is a consortium developing global standards for digital television and data services. Boxes conforming to OpenCable will give cable households access to both digital broadcasting and interactive digital applications. Using the DVB software moves the industry toward a common middleware specification that will ?advantage manufacturers, content developers, applications developers and viewers alike,? said DVB chairman Theo Peek.
