HARMONIC INTRODUCES RETURN-PATH TRANSMITTER
Harmonic introduced a new tunable laser return-path transmitter for nodes in hybrid fiber-coaxial cable networks. The NDT3059A supports up to 36 wavelengths, and the company says it increases upstream capacity for high-bandwidth applications, including Internet access, cable telephony, video-on-demand and interactive multi-user games.
GCI TO DEPLOY GEAR FROM CADANT IN ALASKA
Multichannel service operator GCI said it will use in Alaska early next year the Cadant C4 cable modem termination system (CMTS) and Cadant's G2 IMS management software as it rolls out one of the first tiered data deployments in North America taking advantage of the DOCSIS 1.1 specifications. GCI will initially use the DOCSIS 1.1 equipment to offer data services, but it is also evaluating the C4 CMTS as an option to support a transition to Internet protocol telephony from its current traditional hard-switch service.
SIGMA SYSTEMS LAUNCHES DIAGNOSTICS MANAGER SOFTWARE
Sigma Systems launched Service Diagnostics Manager, its automated service assurance application. The software is currently in production at one of North America's largest cable operators, the company said. The Service Diagnostics Manager automates the troubleshooting process undertaken by customer service representatives and technical service representatives in diagnosing service-related issues. The software automatically identifies the origin ? the subscriber or the cable operator ? of service-related issues, which helps reduce service-call times.
ST, MICROTUNE TEAM ON SET-TOP BOX DESIGN
STMicroelectronics and Microtune said they plan to jointly develop cable set-top-box reference designs that feature their digital and radio frequency silicon-chip technologies. The reference designs are engineered to accelerate the deployment of next-generation cable set-top boxes and residential gateways. Earlier this year the two companies announced they would team up for reference designs for cable modems.
