SCTE MESSAGE
SCTE, Cable Center Preserve Engineers' Legacy
JOHN CLARK
The new Cable Center in Denver is a living legacy to the spirit of entrepreneurship for which the cable industry is known. A showcase for the industry, it offers state-of-the-art exhibits and institutes that are focused on education, training and preserving the history of the cable industry. Its mission is to develop innovative research and education programs that address global industry opportunities and issues.
Preserving cable's history
Of course, The Cable Center is also dedicated to conserving and displaying the rich heritage of the cable telecommunications industry--including business, technology and programming-- and of its legendary pioneers.
Now, I am pleased to tell you that as a member of the Society, you have a unique opportunity to help insure proper recognition for the important contributions that you and your colleagues have made to the industry as cable engineers. You can help highlight engineering milestones...and commemorate those who have made a difference.
SCTE showcase
In recognition of the achievements and dedication of SCTE and its members, an SCTE showcase has been designed for the newly completed Cable Center. A history of the Society now and as it evolves will be on display in the Technology Museum--home of the cable industry's technology archive. Aligned with the museum's Technology Viewing Gallery, the SCTE showcase encompasses an entire wall of information related to SCTE and its membership.
As a member of SCTE, you can purchase shares and receive recognition on this SCTE showcase inside the Center. SCTE members and chapters will receive one share for every $100 donated (see sidebar for member benefits). Part of The Cable Center's Third Millennium Fund--a permanent investment program--this campaign will run from now through the end of the year.
All of the SCTE Board will be contributing to the campaign, which was officially announced and kicked-off last month at a dinner hosted by The Cable Center during BroadbandPlus--The New Western Show.
Building community
As a member of the cable engineering community, I encourage you, too, to help build recognition for your contribution by participating in this fund. This important initiative will have a positive impact on SCTE and cable engineers well into the future, and we want you to be a part of it. You can make your donation online at www.scte.org or look for The Cable Center/SCTE brochure coming in the mail to you soon.
