Cable-Tec Expo: It's Still All About Cable Engineering
In 1983, SCTE debuted its first Cable-Tec Expo, offering the industry's technical professionals a unique conference that would focus entirely on engineering and hardware. This year, May 11-14, the Society will celebrate its 20th Anniversary Cable-Tec Expo and Annual Engineering Conference at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.
As we look forward to this milestone, it's striking to consider how dramatically the industry has evolved over the past two decades. And as the industry has grown, so has Expo. The exhibit floor is now more than 150,000 square feet, and the conference draws 10,000 engineers, technicians and managers--plus 400 exhibitors. Exhibits and workshop topics reflect the many technical and engineering advances that have transformed not only the services we offer our customers but also the way we do business.
Still, one thing has always remained unchanged. Each year, Expo provides engineers a forum of their own to network with one another and to discover the latest in cable engineering hardware, services and news.
A city rich in history
Our theme for this year's Expo--"Celebrate the Spirit"--captures both the character of this 20th anniversary event as well as its host city, Philadelphia. As the birthplace of America's independence, Philadelphia is also home to some of our country's most revered historic buildings and sites. In fact, Philadelphia's Independence National Historical Park--which is also known as America's most historic square mile and boasts such important sites as the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall--is located just a few blocks from the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
Even better, Philadelphia itself is easy to reach. The second-largest city on the East Coast, it is a major hub for airline, train and motor coach travel and is conveniently located right along Interstate 95 for easy access by car or bus. Forty percent of the U.S. population is within a four-hour drive of Philadelphia, located just 100 miles from New York City and 133 miles from Washington, D.C.
A special day for mothers
This year, May 11 marks not only the first day of SCTE's Expo, but also Mother's Day. Coincidentally, Mother's Day was founded by one of Philadelphia's own, Anna Jarvis. First officially observed in 1908, it honored motherhood and family life in a time of rising feminist activism. Expo will include events just for Mother's Day so bring the special mother in your life along to celebrate (registration for spouses is just $95!). Enjoy perks such as a stay at one of two renowned five-diamond, award-winning hotels--the Ritz-Carlton or the Four Seasons. SCTE will have rooms available at both on a first come, first served basis.
The spirit of Expo
In many ways, the true spirit of Expo is best felt in its Exhibit Hall. There, the energy and enthusiasm of exhibitors and attendees are palpable. Tour Expo's exhibits and you'll find the industry's most current products and services. Take advantage of the opportunity to see and feel hardware that's crucial to your business. And meet face-to-face with suppliers and service providers who will offer you hands-on demonstrations for a variety of tools and techniques.
Plus, network, problem-solve and enjoy the company of your colleagues in the Exhibit Hall and also at Expo's many receptions and events.
We hope to see you in Philly!
