New Truck Drawers, Warranty

Commercial van and pickup equipment supplier Adrian Steel has launched new drawer units that feature a sleeker design and a universal glide that allows for interchangeable drawers. A new three-drawer combo unit provides a choice of two shallow and one medium drawers. The drawer units also include a new internal locking mechanism, which uses a key lock. An added feature of this locking mechanism is that it stops the drawers from sliding out when the unit is in the unlocked position.

Adrian Steel has also announced that all its equipment now has a limited three-year/36,000 mile warranty. For more information call , or visit www.adriansteel.com.

New Nodes

Olson Technology Inc. has launched a new family of optical and return spectrum multiplier nodes. One new product is a four output two-way optical node capable of greater than +50 dBmV output levels and performance to 870 MHz. Another new node is a return spectrum multiplier unit plus downconverter/optical receiver that quadruples the spectrum with noise-to-power ratio (NPR) enhanced by the use of distributed feedback (DFB) laser. All models offer features and options allowing the operator to expand system capability. For more information, contact Olson at , or at www.olsontech.com.

Cable Lubricant

CommScope's cable-pulling lubricant, Whupp, contains microspheres that reduce surface contact. That friction-reduction feature, along with its slow-drying, wetting and cling properties enable better pulling through multiple bends and over long distances. Whupp is designed to limit the cost burden of pulling cable. It is non-flammable and non-toxic. For more information, contact CommScope at or at www.commscope.com.

New GIS Software

Communications Information Software is offering geographic information system (GIS) software products to document data about the telecommunications plant. All are part of the FOCUS-One software family.

The Field Walk-Out product operates on a portable computer with an input device for recording structures and distances. Standard symbols are used for consistency and clarity. Once field data is captured by the field walk-out technician, it is uploaded into an Oracle database and final maps are automatically generated.

The Duct Management product features an easy interface for routing and managing duct systems. The Web Browser product allows instant access to maps and data from a computer. Network management functionality is achieved by being able to locate nodes, customers, cities, hubs and more.

Test & Measure Product Expansion

The VTM-330E on-screen test and measurement system from Videotek expands on the capabilities of the company's established VTM-300 product. New features include eye pattern displays and jitter measurements, a gamut display for both RGB and encoded gamut limit indications and Ethernet connectivity to aid in system applications. The product accepts two composite analog inputs with the second composite input configurable as a single CAV input, plus two serial digital inputs.

Other features include the ability to control up to four Videotek RS-12 series routers for input selections, closed captioning detection and decoding with on-screen display and an on-screen display of input signal strength.

US Electronics Introduct Interactive Remote

US Electronics has introduced NOVARI, an interactive remote control designed to support the new generation of interactive digital set-tops such as Motorola's DCT5000 and S-A's Explorer series. It is engineered to operate the full range of interactive features currently available, such as e-mail, Internet access, video-on-demand and e-commerce, as well as future applications.

The remote is available in both infrared (IR) and radio frequency (RF) configurations and incorporates US Electronics' Memory Lock technology. Memory Lock guarantees at least 40 years' memory retention even with batteries removed. NOVARI is able to operate from four to seven devices, and it can be customized to meet individual customer requirements with various key layouts, backlighting and custom logo options. The remote will also operate advanced analog set-top boxes.

Dense Platform

The Motorola Broadband Communications Sector Omnistar GX2 broadband optical transmission platform can handle 16 modules in a 4RU chassis. Application modules are hot-swappable, and an automatic module assimilation feature maximizes in-service time by eliminating the need for manual configurations. Other module features include embedded electronic birth certificates, downloadable user manuals and local or Ethernet monitoring and control.

Motorola says this is the first gigahertz broadband platform in the industry, and multiple system architectures can be accommodated with the variety of GX2 modules available. Modules include 1310 nanometer (nm) broadcast transmitters; 1550 nm externally modulated broadcast transmitters; 1550 nm dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) forward- and return-path transmitters; erbium-doped fiber-optic amplifiers (EDFAs); forward-, dual return- and digital return-path receivers; and optical and radio frequency (RF) switches. For more information, contact the company at , or at www.GI.com.

Field Service Upgrades

C-COR.net has launched enhanced field service automation stemming from its recent acquisition of MobileForce Technologies. MobileForce software products are now the field service dispatch arm of C-COR.net's COR-Convergence network management solution. MobileForce's software applications and hosted application service solutions enable broadband service providers to automate many of the processes associated with end-to-end field service fulfillment.

Through the operation of browser-based business applications, wireless data connections and mobile computing devices, MobileForce's Nvision product allows automated scheduling and assignment of work orders and field service technicians. Features include dynamic computer-aided dispatch; paperless and wireless work order distribution; automated monitoring of route quality; daily work orders and technician status; real-time wireless access to enterprise information systems from the field; business intelligence reporting; a mapping GPS/GIS application to graphically depict what is occurring in designated service areas; and an automated vehicle location system for satellite-based tracking of technician trucks.

Redundancy for Broadband Networking

RiverDelta Networks has announced a comprehensive system redundancy for a carrier-class router and cable modem termination system (CMTS). Complete redundancy of every element of the Broadband Services Router 64000 (BSR 64000) allows this CMTS and edge router system to offer 99.999 percent reliability and non-stop operations for operators, according to the company. The BSR 64000 provides the fault detection and switchover required for high-availability and critical services, including lifeline voice, over cable networks.Unlike systems requiring manual intervention, all the system elements of the BSR 64000's integrated CMTS/router platform automatically cut over to the redundant elements in milliseconds. This rapid switch to redundant system elements means that any failure is virtually transparent to the subscriber.

Agile Mini-Modulator

Pico Macom, Inc. has launched the MPCMA, a microprocessor, phase locked loop (PLL)-controlled agile video/audio mini-modulator designed to optimize rack space. The product automatically locks onto a channel with the push of a button. It employs tracking filter technology that eliminates the need to add a bandpass filter in front of the unit, thereby improving both noise performance and the delay variation over the frequency spectrum.

Ladder Support Bracket, Underground Telecom Vault

Moore DP, LLC, has debuted its Ladder Support Bracket, a horizontal support member in the form of a rod, pipe or tube that is supported on and a part of a projecting arm extending outward from the utility pole. At the distal end of the projecting support arm is a cross-member, equipped with flange plates larger than the diameter of the cross-member, making the plates too large to pass through hooks on the lineman's ladder. The design allows a four-point support for the lineman's ladder, improving overall worker safety and making it easier and more efficient to maintain a mounted device from a comfortable and accessible distance.

The company also introduced its STAKKA Underground Telecommunications Vault, a preformed polymeric vault system for underground access of fiber optic or coaxial communications networks. For more information contact the company at , or at www.mooredp.com.

High Linearity Tuner

Silicon Wave's Sentinel SiW1200 is a highly integrated downstream cable tuner IC for mixed analog and digital systems, such as OpenCable set-top boxes. The SiW1200 is able to achieve exceptional performance in linearity, which is important in an analog application, according to the company.

Silicon Wave's tuner ICs integrate all performance-critical RF elements onto a single low-power device that includes the variable gain front-end low-noise amplifier (LNA). Features include -63 dBc CTB, -60 dB image rejection and a PLL that requires only a simple loop filter. The product supports DOCSIS and 256 QAM cable television operations.
