SCTE Message: SCTE Launches New Online Job Bank
By Melissa Hicks
At SCTE, we are continually striving to offer as many valuable resources as possible to help our members excel in their careers. Now, we're pleased to announce the launch of an online job bank designed to connect engineers, managers, technicians and installers with leading employers in the broadband industry.
The introduction of this new job bank is particularly timely and fills a real need given our industry's current climate of consolidations, mergers and layoffs. Many of our members are finding themselves in the difficult position of being temporarily out-placed as a result of these changes. We are happy that our online job bank will be able to help them as they look for new career opportunities.
What makes the new SCTE job bank stand out from others is that it offers members a job search resource that is uniquely tailored to help cable telecommunications professionals find technical positions within their own industry. It also provides industry employers with an efficient and cost-effective vehicle to reach a very concentrated pool of skilled and experienced broadband workers.
Located on the SCTE Web site at www.scte.org, SCTE's job bank gives job seekers the opportunity to conduct a targeted search of available positions throughout the industry. They also benefit from online career support and an automated search agent that is able to alert them via e-mail when it finds open positions matching their specifications. In addition, job hunters may create a personal profile to track their progress as they go along. The process is simple.
For searching, the SCTE job bank features a "drilldown" function that allows job hunters to view all available positions. They also can perform an advanced search using multiple criteria for more targeted results. This advanced function allows job seekers to find available positions using keywords, job category, job level (from entry level to experienced), type (part time to full time), location and posting dates.
Finding skilled workers
Finding skilled technical workers is difficult. Broadband companies seeking such workers will have the opportunity to reach more than 17,000 SCTE members and other professionals in the industry who visit the SCTE Web site for professional development resources, lectures and news.
Of the SCTE membership ranks that frequent the Web site, 29 percent are engineers, 24 percent are managers, 14 percent are executives (president/chief operating officer/vice president), 10 percent are technicians and 5 percent are trainers.
Companies have a number of options available to them when they post their career opportunities at SCTE Online--from advertising for a single job over a period of 30 days, to advertising for an unlimited number of jobs on an annual or monthly basis. Each listing includes the job title, company name, contact information, a 500-word (or less) job description and a link to the company's Web site.
For a limited time, SCTE will be offering special introductory rates for broadband employers who are interested in posting their company's job openings on the SCTE online job bank. Employers may find out more about these rates and how to post positions by visiting the SCTE job bank at www.scte.org, or by calling .
