Advent Router Dedicates Bandwidth

Advent's new Ultraband Switched Router (USR) offers dedicated bandwidth over existing hybrid fiber coax networks, eliminating the need for a fiber drop. The USR supports 5 Mbps to 40 Mbps downstream channels and 500 kbps to 8 Mbps upstream channels per customer premises gateway. It utilizes a centralized routing and distributed forwarding architecture. (Advent, , www.adventnetworks.com)

Cedar Point Books Safari

Cedar Point's Safari C3 VoIP solution places the call management server, the media gateway, the media gateway controller and signaling gateway functions into one platform. It interfaces with the cable modem termination system (CMTS) and replaces the Class 5 switch. Safari C3 is PacketCable based. One unit can serve 100,000 telephone lines, with the estimated cost per line being $92.41 over five years. (Cedar Point, , www.cedarpointcom.com)

Terayon Cherry Picker

Terayon has unveiled its DM 3200 Network Cherry Picker, which is an MPEG-2 digital streams management system. With it, operators can cherry pick programming from satellite, off-air broadcast and local video servers. In addition, they can insert digital ads and rate-shape bandwidth. (Terayon, , www.terayon.com)

Terayon Eyes DOCSIS 2.0

Terayon has a new cable modem that is DOCSIS 2.0 based, a spec that in part addresses greater upstream performance and immunity to noise interference. The TJ 615 cable modem can produce downstream data transfer rates of 43 Mbps at 256-QAM demodulation. Upstream modulation uses burst QPSK and a 16-QAM modulation for data transfer rates of up to 10 Mbps. (Terayon, , www.terayon.com)

Terayon Unveils High-Performance EMTA

Terayon's new two-line TA 102 eMTA, which also is PacketCable compliant, can simultaneously support high-speed data and voice services. It offers simple network monitoring protocol (SNMP)-based management, provisioning and monitoring. The device comes with two RJ-11 jacks and an Ethernet and USB port. (Terayon, , www.terayon.com)

Clarent Offers Call Manager

Clarent's new Class 5 media gateway controller provides CLASS and Centrex features and supports PacketCable's network calling signaling protocol. The Class 5 Call Manager offers applications, including Visual Caller ID, web-based end-user configuration and real-time Web-based billing. It also supports session initiation protocol (SIP), which helps integrate third-party media servers and other VoIP equipment. (Clarent, , www.clarent.com)

Jedai Shows 'Supercharged' Product

Jedai's FrontRunner 3200 is an access switch router with integrated TDM telephony. The company calls this new release a "Supercharged" Ethernet platform that can offer the features of 155 Mbps SONET and ATM, including quality of service, at approximately half the cost of those two services. The FrontRunner 3200 supports ring and mesh topologies, sub-50 ms telephony protection switching, Gigabit Ethernet hand-offs to customers, optimized handling of point-to-multipoint data services and 2-gigabit rings. (Jedai, , ext. 407, www.jedai.com)

Sunrise Tests Subscriber Drop

Sunrise Telecom Broadband's Hukk CM500IP Install Profiler uses one-button Selectable Measurement Automated Routine Tests (SMART) to check signal levels and service quality for set-top and cable modem operation. The device measures both the upstream and downstream data transfer rate and runs all of the FCC proof tests. (Sunrise Telecom, , www.sunrisetelecom.com)

Pioneer Checks Boxes Remotely

Pioneer Digital Technologies recently took the wraps off of Webnostics, a new remote-access diagnostic tool for set-top boxes. With this program, a technician can troubleshoot set-top boxes from the local headend facility. No truck roll is needed. The operator needs only a PC and a locally-installed Webnostics browser. (Pioneer Digital Technologies, , www.pioneerdigital.com)

Noise Com Unveils Generator

The Noise Com DNG7500 emulates real-world noise and signal interference conditions for the testing cable modem termination systems (CMTSs), signal transmission equipment and return-path monitoring systems. It uses a 14-bit, 150 M-samples/s AWG-Arbitrary Waveform Generator that has up to 64 megabytes of memory. The DNG7500 produces a 70 MHz RF spectrum output. (Noise Com, , www.noisecom.com)

Corning 'Assembles' Adapter Alternative

Corning Gilbert Cable Assemblies (GCAs) can be used in place of 90 degree adapters, 180 degree adapters, and extensions in broadband coaxial networks with limited space. Suggested applications include multiple dwelling unit (MDU) equipment rooms, fiber optic node cabinets and pedestals. The CGAs are made from corrugated copper for high ampacity, tight bend radius and superior shielding effectiveness. (Corning Gilbert, , ext. 564, www.corning.com)

Aurora 'Holsters' Small Splicer

Field technicians can carry the Altima X, Aurora Instruments, Inc.'s new automatic fusion splicer, in a holster on their tool belts. The head is 2.25 inches x 3.75 inches x 8.5 inches. A rotatable hanger/hook means the Altima X hangs from a conduit or cable, freeing the user's hands. Technicians control the device via a wrist-mounted LCD monitor and keypad. (Aurora, , www.aurora-instruments.com)

Wireless Bypass Extends Reach

With the Wireless-Bypass, Inc. Wire-Hanging Cable Access Radio System (WDL-5800), cable operators can offer wireless high-speed Internet services without having to pay fees to a building manager or leasing agent, says the company. The system attaches to the steel guide wire, which typically supports cable along poles, connecting to the cable at drop points. No roof-top or building mounting is necessary.
