Editor's Letter
If you've read Communications Technology in the last couple of decades, you know Ron as an essential member of our editorial team, and a virtual unending fount of broadband brainpower. His column has consistently proved a reader favorite, and I can't begin to guess how much feedback we've received that named something he'd written in these pages as a key tool in solving an engineering conundrum.
SCTE awarded Ron its 2004 Member of the Year at Cable-Tec Expo, so I thought I'd take this opportunity to boast a bit about our senior technical editor.
The Society's Member of the Year goes to the person who has made the most significant contributions to the organization in the past year. Of course, no one would argue that Ron's commitment to the engineering community has lasted a mere year. Perhaps Society President John Clark puts it best: "Ron's service to SCTE is constant."
Hranac is a 31-year cable vet, and joined SCTE in 1979. He's an SCTE Senior and Fellow Member, and is BCT and BCE certified. He frequently contributes comments and advice on the SCTE-List. Ron's a popular speaker at SCTE meetings and confabs, and somehow finds time to juggle his schedule at his day job (technical leader, broadband marketing at Cisco Systems), to serve on the Society's Planning Committee. He has chaired the SCTE International Committee, and been instrumental in spreading the Society's mission around the world.
He's an engineer's engineer, an incredible communicator and a class act. Congratulations, Ron. We're proud to work with you.
(By the way, if anyone out there has one of those "I Am Not Ron Hranac" ribbons from a couple of Expos ago, keep it in a safe place. It's bound to be worth big bucks on eBay someday.)
