CAN KENT BE SUPERMAN?

BY JONATHAN BLUM, KAGAN

Since ratings are down across Turner's holdings, it might be easy to paint outgoing Jamie Kellner as the king of Turner's discontent; but we're not buying it. TNT, TBS and the other Turner brands are some of cable's strongest. Each ranked in the top five in total HH ratings for 2002. The viewer erosion seen here is probably due to the larger trend of the audience being sliced into ever-smaller bits by multiple services. It will be interesting to see what secret weapons incoming Phil Kent can create to find growth in the business.

For complete revenue and subscription metrics for all Turner properties, see the ?Economics of Basic Cable? at www.kagan.com/cw.
