2001 performance Although Cablevision has the most advanced digital product in the industry, its rollout has to date been characterized by delays and software glitches that led the company to lower its customer estimates for 2001 and 2002. It didn't help that Cablevision's digital product was first introduced just weeks after the Sept. 11 attacks and that it has the industry's highest price point. Cablevision added 17,200 customers in the fourth quarter, or about 1,300 a week. 2002 outlook It expects to end 2002 with 125,000 customers.

Charter's digital penetration is 30.8%, the highest in the industry, and has hit 60% in Los Angeles. 2002 outlook Charter expects to add 550,000 to 600,000 digital subs this year and to launch VOD in 17 additional markets.

Comcast Corp.
