CABLE WORLD STAFF
Who says you can't go home again? Not Fred Seibert, who should feel right at home in his new post as president of Viacom's MTV Networks Online division.
Seibert, MTV's original creative director back in 1981 and the former Hanna-Barbera Cartoons prez, will oversee Viacom's effort to ramp up its Internet offerings. Seibert and his former partner, producer Alan Goodman, spent a good part of the 80s overseeing their ad agency Fred/Alan Inc., which was involved in the re-launch of Nickelodeon and helped create the Nick-at-Nite concept.
Now Seibert will oversee the "Project Nozzle" Internet site for kiddies, slated to launch in September. A new music site, known by the working title the "Buggles Project," is due to launch in June. Seibert also will oversee the company's current sites such as MTV.com and Nick.com.
Meanwhile, former Sci-Fi Channel guy Barry Schulman has been named VP-programming and strategic planning at A&E Network. Shulman will ride herd on program development, long-term planning, daytime strategy and off-network acquisitions. Shulman got axed from his job as Sci-Fi VP-programming last year after USA Networks' bossman Barry Diller brought in Stephen Chao to oversee programming at the company.
