NAT GEO STAGES A MONUMENTAL CLIMB
Fifty years after man conquered Everest, National Geographic Channel is taking viewers along as a second generation of climbers attempt to reach the summit. In Surviving Everest, scheduled to premiere April 27, the sons of legendary climbers Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, the first to reach Everest's peak, are joined by the son of Dr. Barry Bishop, the first American to get to the top, in a new expedition. Cameras capture both the breathtaking beauty at the top of the world and the terrifying danger from high winds, extreme cold and sheer drops, creating a real-life cliff-hanger filled with wonders and insights for the whole family.

With the United States on the verge of victory in Iraq, the History Channel's April 1865: The Month That Saved America provides a look at a war worth winning. Acting on the instructions of President Lincoln, generals Grant and Sherman fought a hard war but wanted a gentle peace to bring the South back into the Union. Had they exacted revenge, the country would be very different today. However, their success was possible only because of the honor of Southerners like Robert E. Lee, who surrendered rather than extend the war with guerrilla tactics. The show provides a historic blueprint for winning peace.
