Holy Reruns! TV Land Adds Batman, Gidget

BY WILL LEE

With help from the original television Batman, Adam West, TV Land and its corporate sibling, Nick at Nite, last week unveiled the new (old) programs that will premiere on the increasingly popular vintage-TV services in the coming year.

West's familiar gray tights will be on view on TV Land starting this April, said Larry T. Jones, EVP and GM of TV Land and Nick at Nite, while Sally Field's early opuses Gidget and The Flying Nun will follow in June and Redd Foxx's Sanford and Son will make its debut on the network in January 2003.

TV Land will also borrow from the archives of Viacom programs 60 Minutes and Entertainment Tonight to stock two weekly series: TV Land Legends: The 60 Minutes Interviews, which will feature interviews previously aired on the newsmagazine with such TV stars as Jerry Seinfeld and Jackie Gleason, and ET in TV Land, which goes behind the scenes of such shows as Dynasty and Moonlighting.

Another original production from TV Land will be its First Annual Classic TV Awards show, which will honor both old and new TV shows, the latter as ?Future Classics.?

The network, now available in 71 million homes, has also ordered four new episodes of its factual series Inside TV Land which will examine the role of the police, fashion, theme songs and taboo-breaking in the development of the medium.

Emphasizing its somewhat more modern lineup of shows, Nick at Nite announced the debut of the sitcom Coach this fall and the arrival of Roseanne in 2003.

Network executives said Nick at Nite and TV Land had posted ratings increases over the last year, with prime-time numbers up 14% for Nick and 18% for TV Land.
