CABLE WORLD STAFF
MTV NETWORKS: Bruce Friend has been promoted to SVP-international worldwide research and planning where he will be responsible to build upon the collaboration between MTV, Nickelodeon and VH1's operations worldwide. He joined the network in 1993, and had previously been VP-Nickelodeon Worldwide Research and Planning.
MEDIAONE: Kevin Casey, VP-engineering for the MSO's Northeast region, has been appointed acting SVP-engineering for the Northeast region. He joined the company in 1984, and assumes the responsibility following Russell H. Stephens, recent resignation from the company.
METROMEDIA CO.: Ellen Strahs Fader has been named VP-investor relations for Metromedia International Group Inc. She has held executive positions with Price Communications Corp., Osborn Communications, and Katz Media Group Inc.
MUCHMUSIC USA: Christine Ohama has been named regional director-Western region. She had been regional marketing manager-Western region for Bravo and the Independent Film Channel. She is the recipient of CTAM-Southern California's 1999 Golden Palm Award. The award was given for developing an upgrade campaign in the non-agency category and surpassing Bravo's national goal for local ad sales. Elaine Ching McEntee has been named director-marketing. Since 1991, she has been at American Movie Classics where she was most recently Eastern region marketing manager.
MYERS GROUP: Craig Leddy and Ann Reed have joined the consulting group as SVPs-market analysis. He had been in charge of CLIPS: Craig Leddy Information Publishing Services, which he started in 1998. Prior to that, he was editor of Cablevision magazine, from 1991-98. He was also an editor and Washington bureau chief at Electronic Media. Reed has been with NBC-TV for 23 years serving in various affiliate relations and network marketing positions. Most recently, she was director-affiliate relations and responsible for the relationship between 27 affiliated stations, their owners and NBC.
NEWS 12: Camilio Pombo-Saenz, news director of News 12, the Bronx has received the Stars of the Community Award from the New York chapter of the American Red Cross. He received the award for his contributions to fair and accurate coverage of events in the Bronx. He has been in the television business for 25 years and was previously news director at Bronxnet. Prior to that, he was with WXTV, New York, CNN Spanish in Atlanta and TVE (Television Espanola) in Madrid, Spain.
ON COMMAND CORP.: Ann Marsell has been appointed VP-international; she joined the company in 1996, and had been managing director of On Command Canada, near Toronto, from where she will continue to work. Michael Moore has joined the company as CIO/VP. He had been SVP-information systems and CIO at Vanstar Corp., a technology services company that was sold to Omaha, Neb.-based Inacom Corp. last February.
OXYGEN MEDIA: C.J. Kettler, former president of Sunbow Entertainment, has been named president-sales and marketing for the company's online and cable television properties. She brings nearly two decades of domestic and international television experience to the job having worked at Vestron, Scholastic Productions, MTV Networks and McCann-Erickson Inc. Linda Ong has been named SVP-marketing. She was most recently managing director-strategy at Lee Hunt Assoc. Prior to that, she had been at Lifetime Television where she was director-on-air promotion and was art director at McCann-Erickson Inc. She is a member of the Broadcast Design Assn. and the New York Women in Film and Television.
ROGERS CABLESYSTEMS LTD.: Gary L. Mizga has been named president, British Columbia division. He was most recently with Comcast Europe in London, and prior to that, was regional SVP for Comcast Cablevision Inc. in Michigan. During the 1980s, Mizga was SVP-regional manager with Rogers Communications in Minnesota.
SBCA: Rodney A. Weary, CEO of Golden Sky Systems Inc., has been named to the executive committee of the DBS segment of the Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Assn. He is a 28-year veteran of the cable industry and is the founder, CEO and chairman of the board of Golden Sky, the second largest independent DirecTV provider. He has served on various panels of the National Cable Television Assn.
SCIENTIFIC-ATLANTA INC.: Sherita T. Ceasar is VP-digital launch deployment; she had been VP-quality. Prior to that, she had been director-manufacturing for the North America subscriber paging division at the paging products group of Motorola in Boynton Beach, Fla. That facility was named by Arthur D. Little as the "Best of the Best in Manufacturing Management" in 1995. Ceasar received the 1997 Women of Color Technology Award by Career Communications Group, and in 1994, she won the Black Engineer of the Year Special Recognition Award. Recently, she was among five women inducted into the Women in Technology International Hall of Fame. She has won numerous other honors. Ceasar is on the National Board of Directors of the Society of Women Engineers as president-elect.
SCRIPPS NETWORKS: Steve Newman has been promoted from SVP-advertising sales, HGTV to the newly-created position of SVP-advertising sales Scripps Network. He joined the network in 1994 as VP-advertising sales. Prior to joining the network, he was president of Professional Trends Co. and he was VP/GM of KRNV-TV in Reno, Nev. He also was general sales manager for KGW-TV in Portland, Ore. Jan Hatcher has been promoted from VP-national accounts to SVP-affiliate sales and marketing. She joined HGTV in 1994 as VP-Western region affiliate sales. Prior to joining the network, she held regional and national accounts positions at the Disney Channel in Los Angeles. Hatcher will relocate to New York. Janice Brandon has been promoted from director-local ad sales for HGTV to VP-local ad sales for the network. Prior to joining the network, she had been sales manager for Viacom Cable in Nashville, Tenn. Before that, she was news director for WNBS/WAAW in Murray, Ky.
