A new long-term licensing deal for all theatrical releases from Touchstone, Hollywood Pictures, Miramax and Dimension units was inked last week between Buena Vista TV and Encore Media Group.
Buena Vista, a subsidiary of the Walt Disney Co., will supply the films for up to 10 years to Encore for its pay TV services, at a rate of about 40 films per year. The deal includes all releases between Jan. 1, 2003 and Dec. 31, 2006, with an option for Disney to extend the deal through Dec. 31, 2012. The agreement will fold in to Encore's Buena Vista pay TV license agreement for theatrical releases through Dec. 31, 2002. Encore also gains the right to offer subscription-on-demand services to its cable and satellite customers.
