UPSTREAM BATTLE

BY BRIAN SANTO, KAGAN

Three companies ? Concurrent, nCube and SeaChange ? dominate the video-on-demand market. If Exavio expects to break into the cable market with its digital streaming technology, it will have to win new business despite a lack of experience with MSOs, or forge a partnership with one or more of the VOD leaders. VOD is available in a limited number of markets that together are expected to account for about only 40% of all cable subscribers by year-end, and only those with digital cable can use the service.
