Shares of Liberate Technology climbed 16% Aug. 30 after BellSouth Entertainment said it will use the company's "TV Platform" software to deliver interactive television applications to its southeastern U.S. satellite-TV customers. The deal lets BellSouth customers access several features, such as program guides, pay-per-view movies and Internet TV offerings. BellSouth's TV foray is set to debut in early 2001 to a potential 14M homes.
