CABLE WORLD STAFF
Lame Logo Alert Comedy Central will unveil their new on-air look today, part of which entails a spruced-up logo. While the network yearns to be the king daddy of risk-taking comedy, they decided to go with a risk-less image even after consulting with six different design firms. They claim they just wanted to "evoke and simplify the logo." We think they wanted to pay someone a boatload of money to remove that troublesome antenna.
"As the channel has developed since 1991, growing and maturing into one of cable's great successes, the logo stayed essentially the same," admits Peter Risafi, SVP-on-air promotion and off-air creative, Comedy Central. "We needed to evolve the logo and advance it into the new digital age, but at the same time, we wanted to keep the equity and essence of what the original logo has come to stand for."
