NBA Programs NBA.com TV

Mike Reynolds

If you have a pro basketball Jones, then Viewer's Choice and DirecTV have the cure for your hooping heart.

Touted as the 24-hour convergence of television, Internet and round ball, NBA.com TV became the first full-time network operated by a pro sports league, when it concurrently tipped off with the opening of the NBA season on Nov. 2.

The channel, run by NBA Entertainment, melds real-time scores, stats and news from NBA.com, the league's official Internet site, with live studio-based programming, "look-ins" to games in progress, vintage NBA contests, NBAE fare like Inside Stuff, and specials. Come summer, the channel will apply a similar game plan to the WNBA.

The channel is also providing an assist to Viewer's Choice and DirecTV in terms of promoting NBA League Pass. For its part, VC has dedicated a pair of transponder slots to the delivery of the two services during its rookie year. NBA.com TV is available to all of VC's League Pass subs, and is also featured as a barker channel.

Currently, NBA.com TV is available to some 1 million homes with digital cable and an additional 5.6 million households via DirecTV.
